The Trail Lantern consists of a base, top, diffuser, fiber optic segment, electronics package, and battery.

It is strongly recommended that assembly be done _after_ painting.

  1. Paint the lamp post and cap as desired.
    1. We use Rustoleum Camo Black paint/primer, but any flat or matte acrylic paint/primer should work.
    2. Allow to dry fully between each painting step.
    3. Dry brush the base and top with neutral gray (Liquitex No 5)
    4. Paint random stones a mix of various browns and grays
    5. Lightly dry brush base with unbleached titanium white.
    6. Lightly dry brush top with unbleached titanium white.
  2. After painting is done and dry, glue the electronics package in to the base using superglue (we use Gorilla Glue Gel).
  3. Insert the Fiber Optic Segment in to the base fully. It should be flush or close to flush with the top of the base.
  4. Carefully line up and insert the diffuser in to the top. A small amount of force is OK, but do not apply excessive force. If you have difficulty inserting it, check for any leftover support material or rough edges. The diffuser should sit flush (or very close to flush) with the top of the pole. Important: The silver reflector should be facing outward when you insert the diffuser in to the top, otherwise light will not be able to enter the diffuser.
  5. Insert the battery in to the electronics package and turn on the base. Set the top on the base, but do not glue it yet. You should see a nice warm light coming from the diffuser.
  6. Once everything is working, apply a small amount of glue around the bottom edges of the top and carefully line it up with the base, then glue it in to place.
